Are You Eligible To File A Zantac Lawsuit?

Have you or a loved one taken Zantac for heartburn or other issues in the past?

If so, and you’ve been diagnosed with cancer, you may be able to file a lawsuit to compensate for your medical expenses, damages, and more.

Why are people suing Zantac’s manufacturers?

Sanofi-Aventis, the manufacturer of Zantac, faces lawsuits for not warning users that ingesting the medicine could lead to unsafe levels of a cancer-causing carcinogen.

These lawsuits were filed after Valisure, an online pharmacy, told the FDA that it detected very high levels of n-nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA) in products containing ranitidine, such as Zantac. The pharmacy found NDMA in every single lot it tested from various manufacturers, making this a widespread issue.

What’s the problem with ranitidine?

Valisure found ranitidine to be so unstable that it could react with itself to produce NDMA. With over 3 million nanograms of NDMA found in each tablet, people consuming Zantac were ingesting 31,000 times the maximum daily intake limit from the FDA.

This finding prompted Valisure to request that all products containing ranitidine be recalled. The FDA followed that petition with testing of its own, which found unacceptable levels of NDMA in ranitidine. The FDA also found that NDMA levels in ranitidine products could increase over time, even if they were stored correctly, and that the older the product, the more NDMA it had.

Lawsuits argue that Sanofi-Aventis knew Zantac could transform into NDMA once ingested, and that they failed to notify users about the cancer-linked risks of taking the medicine.

Was Zantac recalled?

The FDA told manufacturers of prescription and over-the-counter ranitidine medications (such as Zantac) to recall their offerings on April 1, 2020.

What can you get from a Zantac lawsuit?

If you choose to contact an attorney so you can sue Sanofi-Aventis, you may receive compensation for the following:

  • Lost wages
  • Medical bills
  • Physical pain
  • Mental anguish

If death occurs due to taking Zantac, family members filing suit may also be compensated for funeral expenses, loss of companionship, loss of expected earnings, and more.

How much compensation can you receive from a Zantac lawsuit?

It’s hard to give an exact amount, as your damages will dictate how much you can receive from suing Sanofi-Aventis. The more physical pain, financial loss, etc., you experience, the more you can end up with.

Some attorneys expect Zantac litigation to be resolved with a massive settlement of all cases combined. If this happens, you could receive $500,000 if you’re in the “top tier” of damages. Other cases can receive $250,000 in the second tier, with other cases being worth $100,000 or less.

How much does it cost to file a Zantac lawsuit?

As is the case with many lawsuits of this kind, attorneys work on a contingency fee basis. This means that they get paid only if you win your case, so you don’t have to worry about up-front costs or paying anything out of pocket. Should you win your case, the attorney’s payment will come as a percentage of your settlement.
